Recommended media resouces for families

Our kids are saturated with offensive content everyday in just about every stream of media.  It can be overwhelming to a parent to try to sort out what is good and what is offensive.

There are some great resources created just for families to help take an active role in the content to which their child is exposed.  Here's a few that we've found that have been recommended to us by parents and other children's pastors.

  The ClearPlay DVD Player

This DVD player allows you to filter out questionable content from tons of movie titles.  You set the level of filtering and the DVD player will skip over the content you want edited out.  The result is a smooth playing movie that is safe for the whole family to view.

 Max Internet protection

Max Internet protection will filter out questionable sites as well as protect kids from online predators.  It filters content from e-mail, instant messaging and chat rooms from places like "My Space."  They also offer a ClearPlay style DVD player.

 Screenit.com

Screenit.com is a great site to learn exactly what gives a movie its rating.  This site will list every offensive moment in a movie to allow you to know exactly what it is you're paying to see.  It lists by category what the offensive content is, when it comes on screen, and leaves it up to you to decide on whether this is appropriate for you to see.

Covenant Eyes has a strong desire to make available to everyone the ability to foster self-control, self-discipline, and personal accountability when using the Internet. It is our stated purpose to provide a tool enabling Internet users to maintain that covenant. This is fully endorsed by Focus on the Family. Covenant Eyes is not an internet filter. It is an accountability software that reports internet activity to a designated accountability partner.
